A broken sprinkler pipe on the second floor of 2 E. Lancaster Ave. in Ardmore sent water cascading into a ground-floor retail space Tuesday, Oct. 13, prompting a two-company emergency response.
The Merion Fire Company of Ardmore, also known as Station 25, responded to a water flow alarm at 12:53 p.m., according to an incident alert posted by the fire company. Crews found water pouring from the second-floor pipe into the shop below.
Firefighters deployed all available salvage tarps to shield merchandise and property. When those ran out, they called for mutual aid from the Penn Wynne-Overbrook Hills Fire Company, Station 21, which brought additional tarps.
Crews also used squeegees to clear standing water and shut off the water supply to stop the flooding.
The fire company's alert did not mention any injuries. The cause of the pipe break, the name of the retail tenant and a damage estimate were not disclosed.
