Broad Street Bullies alumni and Philadelphia Flyers leadership gathered at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute for two screenings of a documentary about the Flyers' 1976 win over the Soviet Red Army.

The film, "Cold War in Philly: Flyers vs. Russia 1976," played at the Lancaster Avenue theater on June 18 and Sept. 2. Director and producer Joe Amodei hosted a question-and-answer session with Flyers alumni Joe and Jimmy Watson after the screening, Mainline Media News reported.

The crowd drew notable names. Dan Hilferty, CEO of Comcast Spectacor and governor of the Philadelphia Flyers, attended with his wife Joan. Lauren Hart, the singer known for performing the national anthem at Flyers home games, came with her husband Todd Carmichael, co-founder of La Colombe coffee.

"To witness one of the greatest Philadelphia sports moments with Joe Watson was a thrill of a lifetime … This movie had to be made!" Hilferty said, according to Mainline Media News.

The documentary draws on game footage and interviews with Broad Street Bullies players, including Joe Watson, Jimmy Watson, Don Saleski, Dave Schultz, Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent and Reggie Leach. Amodei called making the film "one of the best experiences a filmmaker could have."

Joe Watson, a Flyers Hall of Famer and founder of the Flyers Alumni team, joined his brother Jimmy for the post-screening Q&A. The filmmakers spent two years traveling to interview players who were on the ice for the 1976 game, according to the film's official website.

The Bryn Mawr Film Institute, a nonprofit theater at 822-826 W. Lancaster Ave. in Lower Merion Township, is housed in the 1926 Seville Theatre building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Amodei, a 40-year film industry veteran and founder of Virgil Films and Entertainment, made "Cold War in Philly" as his directorial debut. The documentary was produced with the support of the NHL, the Philadelphia Flyers and Comcast.

No additional local screenings have been announced. The film is available in theaters and for home viewing through Virgil Films. The Bryn Mawr Film Institute's full schedule is available at brynmawrfilm.org.
