Multiple Lower Merion fire companies contained a working fire that broke out in a row of garages on the unit block of Morton Road in Bryn Mawr on Sunday, Aug. 9, preventing the blaze from spreading to neighboring structures.

Crews were dispatched at 9:36 p.m., with Bryn Mawr Fire Company (Station 23) arriving as the primary unit, according to an incident report published by the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore. Merion Fire Company (Station 25) responded to assist.

Engine 25-1 laid a supply line to feed water to Ladder 23, while Ladder 25 and Engine 25 brought additional manpower, tools and portable lighting to support operations. Chief 25 assisted with command on scene.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

Crews then checked surrounding garages and confirmed no extension to adjacent properties. The Merion Fire Company said in its report that the response demonstrated the Lower Merion companies' ability to coordinate quickly and safely during an emergency.

Active week for Lower Merion fire companies

The Morton Road fire caps a notably busy stretch for township fire crews. A house fire at 100 Grandview Road in Ardmore on Friday, Aug. 7, prompted a township-wide response and the rescue of three elderly residents by Ardmore Fire Chief Tom Hayden and Deputy Fire Marshal James Gulliver. A five-station response to a separate house fire at 8 Booth Lane in Ardmore occurred Thursday, Aug. 6.

Three significant fire incidents in four days is unusual for the township, which relies on a network of volunteer fire companies coordinating mutual aid across station boundaries. The Morton Road response illustrated that system in action, with Station 25 providing water supply, lighting and command support to Station 23's primary operation within minutes of dispatch.
