A Gladwyne attorney faces simple assault and harassment charges after witnesses told police they saw him choke his girlfriend on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail in Bala Cynwyd.
Thomas Bosworth, 37, known on TikTok as "Tommy The Lawyer" to his 327,000 followers, was charged in connection with the Sept. 3 incident on the two-mile trail behind Union Avenue, the Philadelphia Inquirer first reported. Four witnesses described the attack to police. Bosworth was released on $15,000 unsecured bail.
The couple's newborn daughter was with them in a stroller at the time of the alleged assault, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Witnesses told police they overheard the couple arguing about Bosworth's alleged infidelity. The dispute escalated when the woman mentioned a text thread from his secretary that he had deleted, the affidavit states.
After Bosworth allegedly choked the woman, witnesses said he threw her into bushes along the path and walked away as she screamed. Witnesses also told police the woman slapped Bosworth and threw rocks at him while on the ground next to the trail.
Officers who responded found the woman with redness on her cheeks and discoloration around her neck, according to the affidavit. She told officers she had fallen and declined to speak further. Bosworth also declined to speak with officers.
His attorney, Michael van der Veen, said in a statement that Bosworth maintains his innocence and has full confidence in the courts.
Bosworth runs his own firm after a 2022 split from Philadelphia firm Kline & Specter. He gained prominence that year after winning a $19.7 million medical malpractice verdict.
In 2023, a federal judge sanctioned Bosworth for misconduct during depositions in a product liability case. In a Friday, Sept. 11 opinion, the Pennsylvania Superior Court called his trial behavior "deplorable" while upholding the $19.7 million verdict.
The Inquirer reported that Bosworth did not respond to its request for comment. No independent statement from the woman involved has appeared in public records.
Bosworth is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 6.
