Lower Merion residents looking to close out August with live music have two options on Friday, Aug. 21, and Saturday, Aug. 22, both within the township.
Ardmore Music Hall hosts Classic Albums Live! on Friday at 8 p.m., according to a Main Line Media News events roundup. The touring series, founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, sends professional musicians onstage to perform classic rock albums in full. Friday's show features tributes to the Rolling Stones, Black Crowes and Aerosmith.
The format is deliberately stripped down. Musicians wear all black, skip the banter between songs and play each album note for note before launching into a greatest-hits second set. "No cheesy costumes, no bad impersonations — just the purity of the music," Martin says on the group's website. Ticket pricing was not listed; check ardmoremusichall.com for details. The venue is at 23 East Lancaster Ave. in Ardmore.
The next night offers a different flavor.
Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts presents "A Night with Nashville Legend Jim Hurst" on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. at 9 S. Bryn Mawr Ave. The show is free.
Hurst, a bluegrass and country guitarist, won the International Bluegrass Music Association's Guitar Player of the Year award in 2001 and 2002. He has toured with Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans and David Grisman, among others. Opening the evening is Sweet Corn: Rich Myers, Scotty Rovner & Gang.
The Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts series is co-presented by Lower Merion Township and produced by Rising Sun Presents. Saturday's Jim Hurst show is the last free date on the schedule; upcoming concerts carry a $19 ticket price.
