Firefighters from the Merion Fire Company of Ardmore knocked down a brush fire on the 300 block of Montgomery Avenue in Wynnewood on Tuesday, Aug. 11, before it could spread to the surrounding area.

Engine 25 was dispatched at 5:40 p.m. and arrived to find a small brush fire, according to an incident report by Graham Fuller of the Merion Fire Company. Crews extinguished it quickly. No injuries were reported, and the cause was not stated.

The single-engine response was a contrast to the multi-station mobilizations that have kept township fire crews busy over the past week. The Wynnewood brush fire marks the fourth fire incident in Lower Merion in six days.

As we reported Monday, a garage fire on the unit block of Morton Road in Bryn Mawr on Sunday, Aug. 9, required multiple companies. Before that, a house fire at 100 Grandview Road in Ardmore on Friday, Aug. 7, drew a township-wide response after Ardmore Fire Chief Tom Hayden and Deputy Fire Marshal James Gulliver entered the home and evacuated three residents, including two elderly women, according to Main Line Media News. A five-station response to a house fire at 8 Booth Lane in Ardmore on Thursday, Aug. 6, rounded out the week's earlier incidents. No injuries were reported at any of the three.

Tuesday's brush fire occurred during a stretch of hot weather across the region. Temperatures reached 87 degrees on Aug. 11, following days with highs between 89 and 94 degrees.

The Merion Fire Company issued a fire safety advisory in early July after responding to a mulch fire on East Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore. In that July 4 incident report, the company warned that dry conditions and summer heat can combine to cause outdoor fires and urged residents to report smoke promptly.
