The Gladwyne Library will host a free "Craftivism" event on Saturday, Oct. 10, featuring author Ali Terese and a hands-on art session tied to her book "Free Period."

The program runs from 1 to 2 p.m. at the library, 362 Righters Mill Road in Gladwyne. The first 15 people to register will receive a free copy of the book. Additional copies will be available for purchase after the presentation, according to the Lower Merion School District community events calendar.

Terese will discuss the themes of "Free Period" and walk through examples of craftivism throughout history. Craftivism blends craft-making with activism, turning everyday creative projects into tools for social change. After the discussion, attendees will explore their own interests and create artworks to get their messages into the world.

"Free Period," Terese's debut novel, was published by Scholastic Press in March 2024. The book has been longlisted for the National Book Award and earned starred reviews in School Library Journal and Publishers Weekly. Terese, a middle grade and young adult author, also wrote "Vote for the G.O.A.T." for Simon & Schuster.

On her website, Terese has said she hopes the book shows young readers that advocacy does not have to be fancy or formal and that making change in their community can be fun.

Terese has run craftivism sessions at libraries and schools before. At the first YO! Book Fest at Black Rock Middle School in Villanova in October 2025, participants made message bracelets and "goat-ready-with-me" headbands. She is currently booking appearances through 2027.
