Brendan O'Gara crushed a two-run homer in the first inning, flipped his bat and wasn't done.

The recent Lower Merion High School graduate added a clutch two-run double in the fourth to lift the Narberth Outsiders past Aston Valley 6-5 on Wednesday in a Delco League game played in 97-degree heat.

O'Gara's four RBIs kept the Outsiders' playoff hopes intact. Narberth entered Thursday at 10-15-1, sitting in seventh place and two points behind Drexel Hill for the sixth and final playoff spot with two regular-season games left.

A berth would be the first in franchise history.

The Outsiders went a combined 12-69-2 in their first three Delco League seasons from 2023 through 2025. The 2026 turnaround has the young squad believing.

"I was in a good count and figured, if this guy gives me a fastball I'm going to put a good swing on it. I knew right away, so I gave it a little bat flip," O'Gara told the Daily Times after the game.

O'Gara, who is headed to The College of New Jersey, set the tone early with his first-inning blast. But Narberth nearly let the game slip away. Starter Aidan McElhatton walked five batters in the second inning, and Aston Valley scored four unearned runs without recording a hit. Nico Tozzi, Troy Neff and Kenyon Motley each drew bases-loaded walks before reliever Bradley Schlegel entered and hit Vinny Proietto with a pitch to push across a fourth run, giving Aston Valley a 4-2 lead.

Narberth answered in the bottom of the fourth. Jack Stead lined a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4, and O'Gara followed with his two-out, two-run double that put the Outsiders ahead for good.

Ryan Stolz, another recent Lower Merion graduate, nailed down the save. He threw the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. In the seventh, Stolz worked out of a jam after a hit batter and a one-out single put the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

The win was Narberth's fourth in six games during an eight-games-in-eight-days stretch to close the regular season. The Outsiders won their first three games of the stretch before being shut out by Chester on Monday and Drexel Hill on Tuesday.

Narberth has two regular-season games remaining to make up the two-point gap on Drexel Hill. Opponents and dates for those final games were not listed in the Daily Times report.
